Deanna Johnson, MD
Adult Psychiatrist
Dr. Johnson is a board-certified adult psychiatrist who returned to Alaska to practice in 2005. She lived in Alaska 1989-1995 after completing her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology at Western Washington University in Bellingham, WA. She began medical school in 1994 through the Alaska WAMI program, spending the first year of medical training in Anchorage, and then moving to Seattle to completed her training. She completed her Psychiatry Residency Training also through the University of Washington. After practicing two years in Spokane, she was eager to return to Alaska, her adopted “home.”
Dr. Johnson practiced the 13 years as an attending psychiatrist, treating the acutely ill at Providence Alaska Medical Center’s Adult Inpatient Mental Health Unit. She also provided psychiatric Consult Liaison services for the medically hospitalized/ill for 11 years and was Chair of the Psychiatry Department at Providence Hospital for 6 years.
In Fall 2018, Dr. Johnson transitioned to a full time outpatient practice along with her colleagues at Willow Medical & Wellness and at True North TMS. She provides diagnostic evaluations, pharmacotherapy, and psychotherapy. She specializes in mood conditions, anxiety conditions, adjustment disorders, life transitions, ADHD, and other conditions. She is part of the True North TMS team to provide additional treatment options for patients struggling with depression and has been certified by the Harvard Medical School Center for Research on Non-Invasive Brain Stimulation.
Some of her varied interests are photography, hiking, canoeing, traveling, quilting, and retired sled dogs.
